Has there been a documented defense shooting with a 10mm ?
I'm just curious...Has there been a documented defense shooting with a 10mm ?
Are you asking for Non-LE shootings?Has there been a documented defense shooting with a 10mm ?
I'm just curious...
Why do you ask?
There is no question that the 10mm cartridge is more than adequate for self-defense. It will definitely "get the job done" if needed.
One thing to keep in mind. A man in Arizona used a 10mm in a self-defense scenario which resulted in the death of the attacker. An over-zealous County Attorney attempted to charge the shooter with murder as in his opinion by carrying such a powerful pistol indicated the prior intent to kill if the situation ever arose to shoot an attacker. Ridiculous abuse by the Prosecutor and the man was eventually exonerated, but he should never have been charged! Cost him a bunch before a final resolution! It can happen.

Unfortunately, yes, it can happen. Guess it was a good thing that he was not using a caliber that had "magnum" in its designation. There is no question that the 10mm cartridge is more than adequate for self-defense. It will definitely "get the job done" if needed.

I am considering a 10mm Model 29SF for CCW to be an alternative to my Glock Model 30 .45acp.
I have a couple 10mms and the HiPoint is not really a carry-type sidearm and the XDM Elite is pretty big as well: certainly not for a CCW...
The 1013/1014 is a wonderful belt gunBest carry 10 is a CS40/10 or a 4013/1013. Single stack perfection!
10mm Auto is an extremely powerful cartridge, boasting similar muzzle energy to .357 Magnum with a larger diameter bullet.
However, this is only true of full power ammunition, and to this very day the vast majority of 10mm ammunition is substantially downloaded to roughly .40 S&W performance, which frankly defeats the purpose of carrying a bigger, heavier, more expensive firearm.
So basically you need to look at the specs.
180grs @ 1300fps = 10mm Auto
200grs @ 1200fps = 10mm Auto
180grs @ 1000fps = 10mm Lite (a.k.a. FBI Loads, which served as the basis of .40 S&W)
Unfortunately, to get full power 10mm Auto loads, you basically have to go through boutique loaders like Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, or Underwood, because even the hottest of factory loaded ammo by companies like Federal, Speer, or SIG is still underloaded, albeit marginally hotter than .40 S&W, at least.
