Hello Learned Collectors,

I stumbled in a local gun store today and Identified a 95%+ 14-4 with 8 3/8 barrel and very nice S&W combat stocks. It has a distinct turn line and a touch of muzzle wear, but otherwise it's "all there" with good timing and lockup. It's a consignment gun with a $707 price tag. Any thoughts on this being a desirable purchase? Thanks in advance, Tom.

I have a model 14-2 6'' and that is the single most accurate gun I have ever owned and shot. The revolver I love the most that I shot into a 2'' something like that group at 30 yards. Dont know how.

I also owned a 8 3/8 14-4, perfect gun. It had never shot as accurate as my 6'' and I was also maybe never able to find the right load for it. The length was cumbersome and kept dinging on things.

I had a few other long tubes like and old 629. Never was I able to shoot as accuarte as with a 6 or 6.5 ''. I never known why. If you do, leg me know. My eyes aren't that good up close and I always expected the longer sight radius to help but it never did...a strange thing.

I would pass on it for that reason but other than that a Model 14 is Smiths finest piece of kit.

good price, great gun

I agree that the price is fair, and if its like my 14-3 with the 8 3/8 barrel it will quickly become your favorite range gun.
I would not want to try to carry a gun with that length of barrel in a holster, but for range work, the long barrel is a winner.

thank you for your post. i'v been trying to sell my 14-2,6 in. , single action local on line for about that price have had no intrest at all. i thought my price must have been way to much, glad to see at was the right price after all.

$707 while odd is a good starting point. Gun could probably be had for $650-$675. They are great shooters, especially with that long barrel. In a cheap uncle mikes nylon shoulder holster it carries as easy as a 6". I'm not suggesting concealed carry , just saying if your strolling thru the woods or need a range holster.

I have the 14-3 with long barrel. It definitely makes me look good at the range. The target hammer and trigger have a wonderful feel.

Your call, but sounds like a decent price in that condition. I think I'd buy it.

I think thats more than fair, And I personally would not want the combat stocks, but targets, and I think perfect stocks would bring up to 200, but not sure on the K Combats. Someone else can clarify. That would put the cost of gun at 507, and If you have extra K targets, and wanted to do that, you can be In it for a song.
But it is certainly worth the 707 asking! Offer him 689.25, and see where it goes.

I prefer the 8 3/8" for shooting out to 100 and 200 yard steel. I would grab that Model 14 at $707 all day long.

It is an incredibly popular model. It's accuracy is legendary.
