I was having some difficulty finding a good quality leather OWB holster for my recently acquired 3" Model 686-6+. There were some available from the major makers and custom makers, but the prices were much more than I wanted to pay for only carrying occasionally (not an EDC revolver). I'd heard of 1791 Gunleather and read some great reviews, and found out that they had exactly what I was looking for at a very reasonable price. I ordered a classic brown L-frame OWB holster for my 3" 686+. 1791, located in Miami, FL, uses only quality USA steerhide which it ships to Mexico. The holsters are manufactured in Mexico, and then shipped back to Miami for sales and distribution. I have no problem with that, and am very happy with the quality of this holster. For $62 I got a great holster, it was shipped to me in a couple of days, and even came packaged in a cute little burlap bag. The "mouth" is reinforced for re-holstering, and it has a back piece to protect the user from the hammer spur. 1791 included instructions on how to fit the holster to my revolver (as well as YouTube links). However, instead of using plastic bags for sizing the holster, I wrapped a couple of sheets of Reynolds Cut-Rite wax paper around my 686 (wax side out), inserted into the holster, and let it sit overnight. Worked great, and I have a perfect fit. If you're looking for a quality leather holster that is rugged and priced right, you might want to look at what 1791 Gunleather has to offer.

I am in no way affiliated with 1791...just fan of their holsters! Enjoy!

Looks like a great holster for the money. I have one by MTR that works quite well. I prefer the Askins Avenger style because they take up less belt space.

Perhaps in my lifetime, all forum posters will have ceased to use the 'plastic bag trick' that does not actually work. It was created to keep water off the pistol after WETTING the leather holster, it does NOT make a dry holster larger. The BS that people believe because they heard it somewhere, is incredible.

Do they not use the bag just to make getting it out of the holster easier while breaking it in? Same as the wax paper? Just wondering as I have a 1791 paddle holster arriving Thursday.

I have the same 1791 for 4 inch guns and I use it as a catch all for 4 inch K frame, L frame and rugers. I find it a little too thick cowhide. It’s ok, not great..but good. It works. I took a gamble on Azula for my Ksnubs and it’s impressive for 50 bucks! Unless it’s barranti for something special Azula will get all my buisness from here on out. But yours looks great!

I have the exact same holster for my 2 1/2” 686. My daughter got it for me a few years ago but intended it for my Model 13. It ended up really loose for a K Frame but fit the L Frame perfectly
