18,000 dead cows

I saw a blizzard in maybe 1974 in southeast Colorado/southwest Kansas that killed tens of thousands, at least, of cattle. Driving through Lamar, CO they were piled up thirty feet deep and covering acres awaiting disposal. We kept driving ;)

Actually, there was a mention that the gas may have come from fermenting manure. But the details are sketchy. If it occurred in a dairy barn, it must have been the largest one ever built.

With 18,000 cows together expelling various digestive byproducts, I'm guessing someone lit a match.

FWTW........Scientist have proven that the average human expells "your digestive byproducts" 12-14 times per day.

As to cows damaging the ozone lair that is.............Pure unadulturated bovine
excretement.

I thought humans were up to 44 time a day when healthy, and far worse when taco Tuesday was last night!

That kinda sounds like something an animal rights activist would say to further their cause.

Theodore Roosevelt bought and moved to a large ranch in the Dakotas in the early 1880’s while grief stricken over the deaths of his young wife ( who had been his childhood sweetheart and a new mother of their child recently born ) and mother. Both died in his house on the same day ( Valentine’s Day ). During the winter of 1886/1887, I think, a record blizzard blew through the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain west. Killed hundreds of thousands of cattle over the course of several days. Something like 60% of the American beef cattle population.
Theodore lost his entire herd. Ruined the ranch financially.
He moved back to New York and resumed his political career.

When you drive through Amarillo it’s hard to do one of my favorite things, which is breathing.
Have I seen more Feed-pen Bovines anywhere else?
Maybe Greeley.

Dalhart, TX, Five Rivers/XIT, feedlot capacity 75,000 head
Dalhart, TX, Five Rivers/Coronado Feeders 65,000 head
Near Dalhart, Five Rivers/Hartley Feeders 74,000 head
Dalhart Cattle Co. capacity 60,000 head.
And there are several smaller companies.
Those I have seen multiple times, feedlots for miles.

Five Rivers also has huge feedlots in Colorado.
Total capacity of their 13 feedlots is 865,000 head.
They market nearly 2 million head of cattle a year.

Forgot to add, The parent company of Five Rivers is JBS SA. Anyone familiar with the meat packing industry knows about JBS, and it's not all good.
