I have no proof but I think this one came out of the factory in this configuration, RR/WO, 3T's. The target stocks are period correct (1964) and it makes sense to me that someone wanted all the bells and whistles, including the wood.

Very nice Model 18 for sure. Pretty gun.
I noticed on the other thread earlier,(Yourloyalapostle), that you were going to post pictures of this gun. I have a couple of Model 18’s with target triggers and target hammers and neither came with target grips. Yours is the first Model 18 that I’ve seen that came with white outline/red ramp sights. I did install a white outline on a Model 18 and target grips that I shoot a lot. I also reamed the cylinders on the same gun. Ejection was hard after several boxes of shells but I fixed that.

Yes, the sights are pretty unusual from what I've seen. I haven't shot it. I'm considering selling it as part of my collection reduction. A "pre" 18 I have will probably stay with me. It has the original box.

The stocks SHOULD have a serial number stamped on them - that would be the proof. If they have no number or an incorrect number, they are an add on.

The hammer and trigger "proof" would have to come from a factory letter since they are not numbered.

Beautiful model 18!!!

Target stocks very seldom have the serial # (especially after the 1950s) because they didn’t require fitting to the gun. If they have nothing marked on the back there’s a possibility they came on the gun from the factory. Again, only a letter will provide proof. But if they’re marked with a large KT or something similar in black ink, they were purchased separately likely at the dealer and installed aftermarket.

I have a 18-3 with TH, TT, white outline on R sight, and red ramp R sight and target stocks. Have been told it is a 1967 and that the grips have no s/n but are factory.

Original box on mine has special features as: F765 ?

Mr G. - your post made me go dig out the box. Lo and behold …. Label marked TT and TH. No notation on sights. Service stocks (not with gun) and no special features noted.

The 2 boxes for a couple of my Model 18-3’s are marked with Target Hammer, and Target Trigger, with the boxes so checked. Both boxes have an S in the designated box for stocks which designates square butt Factory Magnas. Both of those guns have Magnas numbered to the guns. This box just happened to be easy to find.

In the case of my 18-2 the target stocks have no markings indicating factory replacements. Another note about this gun is the target trigger. I am reading in SCSW, and have observed, that would normally be the .400" trigger. This one has a .500" trigger. Could that possibly indicate a special order or would S&W regularly use a .500" trigger on this model?

I double checked both of my Model 18-3’s that have target trigger, and target hammer, and square butt Magnas, that have original boxes. Both guns have the .500” serrated target triggers, slightly wider than the trigger guards. I believe your .500” target trigger is correct. Here’s an example.
