Nice gun! The ramp front sight is a plus! Congrats.

It had speedloader cut on it when I got it.
Changed that immediately, so not original stocks.. although there is a 1 in 4m chance that the ones I put on could possibly be..

Would need the serial number to date it.
With that ampersand I would expect late 1975 ~ 1977

Anything like the barrel or cylinder serialized; from the rework?

Then I suspect mid to late 1976.

So...the gas ring should be on the yoke. Can't really tell but it kinda looks like the gas ring is on the cylinder in this pic.

Anything on the cylinder, an X or R?

Great looking revolver! Love the ramp front sight with red insert.

I sort of chuckled when you said you replaced the grips. The reason I chuckled is because I swapped the grips on my 19-3 (357 Magnum) and 17-4 (.22 Long Rifle) so the 19-3 would have the speed loader cutout. Wouldn't use speed loaders on the 17-4. However, I think the grips you put on your 19-3 are very nice looking and belong on your sweet revolver.

God bless,
John T.

Nice Model 19-3. Yes, it was reblued at S&W in August of 1979. Why was it refinished only 3 years after assembly? Good question, but no answers, I could guess that something bad happened to the finish, maybe some rust or exposure to vinegar or something similar that damaged the finish. There might have been a blemish in the original finish and the owner sent it back to be corrected. Only the original purchaser would know for sure.
