Hey All,
I am curious as to any info related to the model 19 with 2.5" barrels that were produced for a CT State Police contract?

They seem similar to the Diplomatic Service model 19 snubs that were produced, with the matte blued finish.

I am looking at one with an AYY prefix that has the original box and all paperwork and is listed as "outstanding collector condition"

Anyone care to give a general ballpark of what you would be willing to pay for this?

I am very attracted to the look of the matte blued and the overall condition of this revolver, and love K frames for carry.

Am I crazy for going over $1500 for this revolver?

All opinions welcome, ha!

Combat Magnums in nice shape are a grand. Uncommon versions, especially uncommon versions with law enforcement provenance, go for more.
So price wise, thats not out of line. Depends of course on condition.
The only drawback to this run of model 19 was that it was ugly. And ugly guns are hard to love.
If you have to have the CT police gun, awesome. If you just want a nice 19 snub, I would keep looking.

I believe it's OK to link to "finished auctions", so here is a CSP M19 that went recently... Attention Required! | Cloudflare

Ugly? ha, i love that matte finish! it's "tactical", don't ya know?
And i should mention, I've got a 19-3 snub inbound, with regular blueing... which i probably overpaid for!

Look at the box of one currently for sale and you’ll find that the serial number is the same as the one sold a couple weeks ago as mentioned above.

Yes sir, I did notice that!
Guess the current seller bought it and is hoping to flip it for big gain... which, a sucker like me is right in line for, ha!

We'll see how high it gets... I'll definitely report back.

$1500 is a little high for me, especially when you can get a nice one in bright blue or nickle for that kind of money. If you are one who appreciates a LE connected gun, it might be right for you. That's who the seller is looking for here.

It’s a desirable gun for someone that collects LE guns or wants 19’s in every color. I passed on a couple of 3 inch 66’s a couple years ago because they were “too high”. I guess all guns are worth what somebody will pay. I’ve paid too much in my mind a few times but it’s worked out and I’ve enjoyed the guns.

It's odd because I am not a collector at all... and I don't want it for the LE aspect... It's just that when I look at current production revolvers from any manufacturer... nothing grabs me like a S&W 19 or 66 snub... and the newest iteration of 66 models are pretty steep in price and I don't have the love for them compared to the older revolvers.

Something about a nearly new condition S&W snub in that matte blued finish... I'll put some rubber pachs on it and carry the hell out of it, in a nice TT Gunleather IWB holster.

I paid 1500 for my Dan Wesson, 1,000 bucks plus for a Springfield Operator, and just bought a Standard Manufacturing SAA for nearly 2 grand...

What I'm saying is that my interest in guns runs toward "sort of" pricey, but not collector pricey, and that I won't buy a safe queen.

Bit of a drift. I poster this DSS 19-5 gun on this forum about a year ago. I was contacted by a current agent of the Diplomatic Security Service about purchasing the gun.
He said if I knew anyone else who had one he had more agents waiting.
Those guys use weapons we likely have never seen.
I declined, but likely could have named by price, it looks unfired. Grips looked to have been bounced around a bit in the box.
Have the original box and factory letter.

I see nothing ugly about it.

Eh, no thanks. Give me a good old-fashioned blued model any time. I guess we all have our favorites.
BTW, DSS is surprisingly conservative in guns. A friend/former coworker told me once that they were using Glocks like everyone else. They don't do much if any James Bond stuff. Lots of keeping foreign diplos out of trouble here and ours overseas.

Having a matte finish 19 with LE provenance would fit well in my scheme. I have a few LE guns. And I have the other colors. Then you have to consider barrel lengths, and dash numbers. And I’m a grip junkie. This can be a crazy hobby. But it’s fun.

It's so funny that at my age, high end of 70's, certain "almost buys" stick out in your mind. I remember going to a gunshow in Altoona, IA and I had two guns that I was deciding which to buy. One was a 1911 SIG stainless Commander size pistol, and the other was a immaculate Smith & Wesson model 66 with 2.5 inch bbl, no box but was stamped as a Kentucky State Prison gun, and the price was really fair. I went with the SIG which was about twice the price of the model 66 and that decision haunts me to this day.

The SIG is long gone and I'm certain that if I had bought the model 66 it would still be with me.
