Bought one and I love it. Of all the guns I have ever owned this is my baby. But the gun has wear marks on the left side of the frame where the safety makes contack with the frame. I don't think this is a normal condition is it? I paid good money and this is the only thing that makes me sad.

Should I complain?photo.JPG

I had an SC "E" 1911 and had very similar issues. The finish of the frame on both sides of the ambi-safety seemed to wear quite easily.

wherever metal meets metal there will be wear.
Completely normal. A dab of grease in there will slow it down.

There is probably a high spot on the underside of the safety that you could stone down.

I know a guy that had a fairly new Ed Brown .45......don't know the entire story but I think he ended up with one of those idiot marks on it, had it refinished with ion bond......you cannot scratch that stuff, if you try, and he did on one of the mags he also had refinished.......my choice if I ever need to refinish a bottom feeder.

Semper Fi!

This problem is common on the Scandium framed SW1911's. You see numerous complaints on multiple boards. You would think S&W would have resolved this by now.

I just bought a new 1911sc as well, the full black one, and I love it. But I was also very disappointed to find the exact same wear mark under the safety. I have since heard of others with the same problem :(

This is a very common problem on the scandium framed 1911s. The finish S&W applies to these just doesn't wear well and is easily scratched.

Mine has the same mark but I haven't lost any sleep over it. I like my guns to look good and paid a fair amount for the gun but...it has worn well otherwise and shoots so nice that I don't find it difficult to overlook. Should it do it? No. Is it a huge deal? Not to me. This is, after all, still a production gun that gets very little personal TLC from the factory before it goes out the door.

It's a great gun for the $$ and I'm not going to groan much. As with all new things Smith will address this if they haven't already but those of us that bought in the first year or two will have to live with the initial imperfections. I do intend to shoot and carry the gun so it will get other wear and scratches over time.;)
