I recently bought a new to me a 1911 pro series 9mm, took it the range and put a couple of boxes through it and found my new favorite. Things got busy and I didn't get a chance to clean it until later in the evening before I went to bed, big mistake. I field stripped it and had the frame in my hand admiring it and had a brain fart and pulled the trigger with the slide off. I know the manual says not to do that but it was late. Any advice on what to do now would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you damage something? If not, I'd cock the hammer and reassemble. Doing this repeatedly will probably damage the sear, but I doubt one time hurt anything unless you are very unlucky.

You did that on your birthday?

j/k Happy Birthday!

That doesn't sound good. I'm thinking a detail strip is in order at this point. I'd have to look real closely at the hammer engagement, sear, and grip safety. Also possible that one or more of the spring fingers have slipped off and are underneath the sear. You can take the pin out of the mainspring housing and pull it down enough to probably see what's going on.

One of the best 1911 guys around happens to lives near me but unfortunately he was a little under the weather. I contacted him this week and brought my pro series to him yesterday. Within seconds he had it working perfectly again. I just wasn't prepared to put that much pressure on the hammer to get it back in position for fear I'd break something, thank God for the professionals. I brought it the range where it preformed great. Thanks Greg

Always wise not to rush into something you don't understand and risk just making things worse. No more snapping without the slide in place! :D

Glad to know you got your 9mm Pro back in action. :)
