1911

It depends on what it's chambered in...

If it's .45 ACP, then you choose wisely. If it's 9mm Parabellum, then shame on you. ;)

I've really thought about trying to consolidate the pile o guns down to a nice 1911. I think I got it down to 10, maybe someday I'll just knock the rest out. Good call and good work.

I won't ask why you sold off all your guns (except for the Colt 1911 pictured) but I am a bit saddened to hear that. I am a HUGE 1911 fan and so you won't get any argument from me about your choice of "the one gun" you kept. A bit hard to conceal a 1911 and I'd have personally also kept a small EDC gun, but that's just me.

When it comes to shooting and competition, my two fav's of all time are my 1974 manufactured Colt 1911 45acp Gold Cup NM and my old S&W M15.

BTW, your Leather maker friend is quite talented!

Well done. I've shot a 1911 of one sort or another more than any other handgun over the past 54 years and it will always be my "number 1" even over my beloved S&Ws. I too have paired my accumulation down, now I have 3 1911s-one is a custom build that was gifted to me, the other is a compact 9mm and the third is one I now have owned for the second time lol-a Les Baer 5" from 1995.

The Baer is the one I grab first for the range and gets carried when the weather calls for a covering garment. It was a custom order from Baer, I bought it from the second owner. It can make a blind man look like a great shooter!

Phil, I love the Colt, but be honest, you kept that gun so you could have a reason to keep that Heiser holster, didn’t you…?! It’s beautiful!

I keep thinking about thinning my herd. Difficult to make those decisions about what to keep, and to figure out how best to get it all accomplished. Did you consign, sell on the forum, gun shows, private party/FTF?

Decades ago, I always lusted after the Gold Cup. However, I always ended up with a revolver when it came time to actually buy something. A friend bought a Gold Cup, and it needed work. Then there were the various articles about sites coming off, durability, etc. This was all in the 70's and 80's.

In the 90's, I got to qualify and carry a 1911 for a bit and came to appreciate the platform a little more, although our aged examples had a lot of problems. I'm now a 9mm guy, don't care about caliber wars, and love my old BHP and Glock 17L (six-inch, lighter trigger).

But recently, I got to fondle a newer Gold Cup National Match .45 at a store. Just like the old one, but with better sights, and an excellent trigger. Cheaper than the models with various race-gun features. I have to admit, it was tempting, just because of my old infatuation!

Great to see you back, Phil. I hope you can get out and shoot that old classic sometimes, just for fun!

Darkenfast, I know exactly what you mean. My Colt Gold Cup, shown
above in #1 was in deplorable condition when I bought it. I cleaned it
up and fixed it up quite a bit. I remember when I first got it, I took it
to the range. First shot and the front sight fell off.

I only have one 1911, an STI Spartan, but it would be one I'd want to keep if I had to choose.

I thought I was doing good to get it down to 10. 😁

Great rig Phil. And a very nice 1911.

Several reasons for downsizing. I did a big one 10 years ago when I divested multiple Lugers, 1911s, Colts, and assorted mil-surps. Made a great contribution to my retirement account.

Now it's just those I will actually take out and shoot. I'll drool over others acquisitions, but just don't have the time
or desire anymore for anything extensive.

Thanks for sharing your special 1911 and rig.
