Recently purchased a new S&W 1911 PD (external extractor)and it seems to eat everything I put through it (although its only been about 150 rnds of Blazer brass and 20 rmds Gold Dot). The problem I'm having is when I fire the weapon about every 2nd or 3rd piece of brass comes back and hits me right between the eyes!!
I love this weapon and intended on carrying it for duty use but???? This weapon has already been back to the factory TWICE...once for as trigger issue and the second time for a grip safety/trigger issue. It's ONLY 4wks old and been at the factory most of the time. Is there an easy remedy for this that doesn't involve the factory?

Thanks
Frank

If it were mine I'd wait until I had 500 rounds through it then re-evaluate the situation.

Mine did the same thing untill it got about 500 rounds through it. But it will still happen every once in a while untill you get a 1000 through it.

Wear a hat, that's what I do.

Make sure your grip is firm. The lighter-weight PD models have a tendency to be less forgiving with weak holds and will throw twist a bit in the hand and chuck brass at your forehead. It may be the extractor...but most find (threads about this problems are many) that a firmer grip does the trick.

Thanks for the input gang!! I'll throw a few more rounds through it to see if it will stop throwing rounds at me!!

Thanks
Frank

I agree, mine did the same thing for the first few hundred. Does not happen much now

I just got mine back from the factory. Mine ws new in April, I put 600 rounds thru it and sent it back, scoring on the slide front. Uneven wear on the rails. Shot great and was reliable, but could only see the uneven wear getting worse over time. Anyways...Got a new slide and sent the gun to the PC for some TLC. I put about 120 rounds thru it after getting it back and only experienced one hicup. After about 60 rounds the gun fired one round, and the slide locked back. I released it and it chambered the round and ran flawlessly. The gun was a little dirty, as I didn't clean it after it got back from the factory and put those rounds thru it. Also, it just got back and prolly needs another 400 or so rounds thruy it before I carry mine (duty gun) and trust it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.....

+1 Single stack 1911s with a flat MSH don't fit my hand well. The nutmeg grater that was the stock aluminum MSH didn't help either. I replaced my MSH with an arched serrated Ed Brown and no more brass in the forehead and it's a lot more fun to shoot.
