I recently won an auction for a great conditioned 1917 G&K holster for my Colt 45 acp revolver. My question is about storage, Im not sure that I want to store the gun in the holster or store them seperate. Something tells me to store them seperate so nothing from the gun or holster bleeds on to the other, any input on this subject would be helpful, both pieces are in a climate controlled gun safe if that matters.

Store them separately, the leather will hold moisture.Keep the holster in an air tight bag so mildew wont form on it.

Right , never store in a leather holster. Aside from the natural juices , leather also will absorb humidity and may cause rust.
Ya may also want to give the holster a rub down with mink oil or Sno-Proof so it don't dry out or crack..

Ebay score on mis-labeled holster

here are a couple of pics of the holster, as I said it is in awesome shape with the bung still in it with lanyard and the closer flap still is retained firmly by the "button" catch. I bought this from Ebay, the seller had it mis-labeled as a WWII holster that his father in-law had wore during WWII. However it is for sure a 1917 G&K, and I paid only $72.00 for and like I said it is a great original piece, I have seen people trying to get upwards of $300 for one in this kind of shape.

In the HBO series "The Pacific" a model 1917 revolver was given to "Sledgehammer"the main character from I believe a vet before he ships out for basic training. The series is awesome and I would recommend it to any history buff. I would definetly believe that some revolver were re-issued or given brand new from surplus left over from the first war, eithier way this holster is awesome. I also purchased a nos lanyard for a new service pistol, I gave $65 for that piece.
