For those who like to keep track of these things, here are the ship date results from lettering my group of 4" 1950 Target .44 specials:

Shipped May 1953 to Elmer Keith, extra charge of $7.50 to cut the barrel to 4" before shipment

"Open on the books" - no information available. Kind of a neat letter to have.

The 1950 4th model targets are wonderful guns. My 6 1/2", S103761 left Roosevelt Ave. April 20, 1954, headed for Honolulu, HI.

6 1/2" S149385 9/8/1955 to RK Tryon Co. with 4 others just like it...

6 1/2" S138975 11/8/1953 to WS Darley & Co. w/other revolvers for various police depts...

4" S1201290 1/21/1955 to Harvan Sporting Goods Co. with 9 other 4" and two 6 1/2"...

4" S120155 1/26/1955 to Olympic Wholesale Co. with 2 other 4"...

4" S120184 1/24/1955 to American Wholesale Co. with the following 9 others all 4" and all for various police depts...

And the oddball (there's one in every crowd)...A single gun shipment (read special order for discriminating customer), began life as a 6 1/2" but cut to 5" before leaving the factory to JT Lloyd Co. 4/21/1953 with the addition of a Baughman Quick Draw front sight on a ramp base, all for additional charge...Then returned to the factory in March 1955 for a 3 1/2" barrel (numbered the same with Service Department marking) and the addition of a red insert to the front sight...

Most things in my house smell like bourbon and cigar smoke, so if they didn't before they do now.

A couple of corrections here to my post above...My 4" listed as S1201290 should be S120190, and I inadvertently left out the S/N for my 3 1/2" listed last - it's S97784......Ben

IIRC, Elmer was a Scotch drinker.
