Bought this 1974 Model 42 from a retired Kentucky State Trooper 10+ years ago. He acquired it (legally) from seized / evidence guns. Wish that I knew the history. Carrying it this evening.

Anyone else carry a 40 or 42?

Ryan,
That is a exceptionally clean looking 42 considering it had been evidence

For the brief time that the Model 40 was re-introduced at the dash 1 engineering revision there were a few small batches of unique looking variations.

I grabbed this guy back then

The re-introduction does push these into the the next revolver time window as my example was manufactured on March 25th of 2007

I wish I had picked up one of the color case hardened variants, but I was too slow and missed out

As to carrying, I tend to carry a 340 if I am going lightweight.

When weight is not an issue or if I want to carry a reload, I usually go 640 or 940

The cross draw position for the weak hand is a very easy draw while seat belted in the car.

The New York reload lets me draw strong hand, weak hand or both hands.

I don't carry this, but I am planning to shoot this at the range next week for the first time. Bought this pre-model 40 from forum member Toad67 awhile back----March of this year, I believe.

I've been known to replace the modern 640-1 Pro in my Lobo Gun Leather Enhanced Pancake with this January '55 shipped Centennial.

I pin the safety lever because my big mitt doesn't want to make it work as designed. I really like the smooth high horn stocks.

Mark,

That engraved 40-1 is stunning. I too would like to find the case color or nickel 40-1. They pop up occasionally here in NC.

I have two of the blued 40-1. Excellent bluing and triggers. Also have a couple of the 42-2. Here's one with the 40-1. But, to get us back on pre-1980....

Here's a 1973 Model 40. Have the box, docs, and original purchase receipt.

Bob,

That's a nice one. It's not just a big hands problem. I need to use a Tyler T or aftermarket grip with my average hands.

The 42-2 does not come with a pin. Do not recall if 40-1 has a pin.

Here's my Model 42. I haven't lettered it, but the gun is a fairly early version. It has the "High horn"grips, "Bug screw", Flat Latch, and, surprisingly, still has the grip safety deactivation pin under the grips. The grips are numbered to the gun (137XX).

I carry my 2007 factory hard chromed Model 40 with Secret Service grips just about every day.
I'd buy a 42 if I ever saw one for sale.

I'll have to figure out how to post a picture.

I really do like these revolvers. I always wanted one I just couldn’t activate the safety. Oh well I guess that means more for the rest of ya.
