In 1978 I bought a 59 when I felt I wanted more than the 7 + 1 my 1911 offered. I got rid of it after just a couple years for what I don't remember lol.

I have always had a nostalgic desire to get another but haven't so far. I was just offered one from 1977 in the original box, all papers and 1 mag. It's had a red ramp insert professionally done and a white outline rear sight blade and smooth wood grips, no original and faded gold fill in the trademark and other markings. I'd say it's about 85% finish.

I really can't think of a good reason to buy it outside of nostalgia. Looking at about $350-$375 plus tax/ffl fee. What do you guys think? I'll add a couple pics shortly

Just finished up the paperwork and paying, can bring it home Tuesday afternoon. I think my screen name is appropriate but maybe I should change it to "Starsky" :D.

I've never been good at rating condition outside of new in the box or very lightly used firearms. That being said I'm really happy with this purchase. The decock is very smooth and frankly I'm impressed with the da/sa on it-more to come after a range session next weekend.

You can change your screen name to "Starsky" after you buy a 1974-76 Ford Gran Torino 2 door, painted red and with the white swoosh stripe. :D

Even though it is no longer original, I would have been a buy at $350-$375 too.

Got the 59 out of Colorado gun jail today. Field stripped it when I got home, it was really dry but the barrel is clean and in fantastic shape. There was a also a receipt from a prior sale at a store in Kalispell from 1989 where the gun sold for $350 + tax lol-my price was actually $362.50 (background check fee here is $12.50). The original rear sight blade is also in the box.

I don't plan on shooting it as much as just reminising about days gone by 46 years ago when I had my original one. Yeah I feel there are better modern double stack 9s but this one has panache :D. The reset is outstanding and I'm sure the action is a reflection of the rounds through over the years. Here are a couple more pics. Oh, there is also a sheet for a model 39 with a red stamp on it stating new prices effective April 22, 1974-no such stamp on the sheet for the 59.

And the popular for the day gold fill

They're great shooters, I had mine out Sunday. If you're going to shoot it you might need to put a fresh magazine spring in it as I've noticed mine were causing failure to feed randomly. My dad and I bought this one in the late 00's as our first semi automatic pistol.
