Happened yesterday at an LGS 20 minutes down the road. I've only seen 3 of these pistol packs in the "wild", including this one and have always lusted for one after seeing the first. Missing the patch and maybe the belt buckle too, but the gun and extra barrels are mint. $1,500.00 OTD.

I remember seeing those back in the day when you could walk into a well stocked gun store and expect to see one in the case. I thought they were neat, and sorta wanted one, but back then they were out of my price range.

I'd say you got it at a good price, but I haven't seen one in ages.

Nice find, wonderful revolvers, super accurate with the finish of a Python. Single action trigger pull delightful.:)

Double Action pull miserable. Back in the mid to late 70's I really lusted for a Pistol Pak. Unfortunately as an Engineering student any handgun was out of my price range and a Pistol Pak was well beyond out of my price range.

rim6120 ,,,, beautiful set ,well done
And who needs a belt buckle anyway ?
That pile of front sights is probably worth as much as another barrel .
Go figure.

Never bought a pistol pack but,,,,,,, I sure acquired a pile of parts.
It's the mister PotatoHead of revolvers. Never ending fun to play with.

After you learn a few simple tricks they are just as simple to dis and reassemble as a S&W and capable of BRILLANT triggers,,,, But they do feel different than a S&W trigger and that is off-putting to some.

I feel the same way about the belt buckle. Those things are running $80-$100 on eBay! I did score a nice patch for cheap to round things out though.

Nice collection of DW guns/accessories you have there, BTW!

For $1500, you did really well. I'm not certain that yours is completely original. All of your barrel shrouds are the HV (Heavy Ventilated rib) style, but the six inch is the V (Ventilated rib) style. As far as I know, pistol packs came with shrouds of the same style, no mix-n-match option. Even if it is not all-original, don't feel bad. For $1500 you got $2000-$2500 worth of revolver and accessories.

Stansdds is correct, the 6” is a mismatch for the other barrels. You can usually find one on eBay if you want to find the correct barrel. You can also sell the extra barrel the same way or on the Dan Wesson forum. The heavy shroud Is usually a little more expensive but both will buy/sell in the $275-350 range. I started collecting Dan Wessons before I got into the S&W and have 8 complete pistol pacs. I also have singles with the longer barrels. The pic is the 15” barrel and holster. Not very practical but very accurate 100 yd shooter.

About 5 years ago I happened into a brand new pistol pack, complete with buckle, patch, etc. I thought it was a cool idea, but not cool enough to keep. It went down the road to a buddy for $1200. Now I wish I had it back.

Congratulations on a nice find

I sold my Pistol Pac off many years ago during a cash flow crunch

However, I have always gobbeled up spare barrels fro the frames that I still own

I like that Mr Potato Head comment. I had not thought of it like that.

These are such amazingly accurate revolvers.

I bought a 6 inch heavy vent rib model just after I turned 21. It was a great shooter. I was going to get the 4 inch barrel and use it as my duty weapon but with the cylinder release in the front I was not allowed to carry it. The Sheriff said it would be to hard to use under stress. I traded it a few years later for a Mini 14. It was one of those I should have kept.

My first DW was a 15-2 that came with the 8 inch barrel, the shroud was the standard, short under lug and without the ventilated rib. I bought a 6 inch HV barrel and shroud and it was far more portable. I ended up trading it, then missed it for several years.

I stumbled upon another 15-2 in my local sporting goods/gun/pawn shop. It had a 4 inch ventilated rib, short under lug barrel. It shot well and i bought a 4 inch HV barrel and shroud. It balances so perfectly in my hands and is a joy to shoot. I also bought a 6 inch ventilated rib barrel and shroud, just in case I decide I want a longer sight radius.

I bought a 15-2 to replace my trash Taurus 83 that was in sunny FL for the first of two trips. The previous owner had clipped the mainspring causing light primer strikes, and for a short time, I was thinking, "What bad luck I'm having with my first two guns!". Someone told me to take the mainspring out and look to see if it had been clipped, and it had. A new spring and it was 100%. I had that gun about 10 years, and at one point I had 5 15-2's ranging from nearly perfect to pitted and all scratched up. Over the years I sold them off, even the really nice first one. In 2006, I scored my best deal ever on GB, a 715 barely fired, 3 grips (Factory target, custom finger groove, and rubber) a bunch of spare parts, one of the junk plastic wrenches, in the box with papers and original sales receipt, for $269. It has custom sights too. I still can't understand why it went so cheap. Since then, I've bought 2 more 15-2's and a 44. The one 15-2 is pretty sad looking, but shoots great, but the 715 is prettier and just one scratch from being mint.

Beautiful Dan Wesson 15-2s. I've had 4 and have one Monson 15-2 with a 2½", 4' and 6" barrels and a Palmer .44 with a fixed 6" barrel (surprisingly very accurate). The 15-2 is an EDC that shows wear and I cold blue it where it needs it and when it needs it. The .44 is good shape and shows very little wear but it was tapped for a scope mount years ago.

One of these days I'd like to pick up a nice pistol pac.

Those are alot of nice looking guns.

EWK Arms deals Dan Wesson barrel shrouds and such. I have bought a couple of their take down tools and they are much better than the factory unit.

rjm6120,
You did well with your purchase and I don't think you will regret buying it.
I bought this model 15-5 in May of 1979. It was the cheapest model. I fired it with the 8" barrel and put it away after using WD40. The attached photos show everything that came in the pistol pack when new. I had forgotten what a beauty these revolvers are. The WD40 has locked mine up a bit so I will be giving it a thorough cleaning soon. I sure have extra time now.
