Can anyone help me with this question about a Smith and Wesson model 19-4 serial# 83K0769. I took off the grips and found circled R and an L with a triangle around it, and the number 04552 on the grip frames right side, and the left side is stamped #69425 A4 17. Also the crane is stamped 1 69425, what do all of these different numbers mean and what are they in reference to. I look forward to any information you all might be able to provide.

Thank you

The only number on the gun that matters now is this one............83K0769

All that other stuff is what they used to keep track of parts and who'd done what as it went through the production process.

BTW 83K0769 is from 1980

As the man said, they are all assembly numbers applied as it went through the various stages in the assembly process.
If there were a star on the butt with the S/N then a date would also be stamped on the side of the grip frame. The star and date indicate when the gun would have been repaired or altered by the factory.
Your gun was not sent back so only the assembly numbers are applied.

Thank you gentlemen very much for the information, I was surprised by all those numbers and just thought I should check.
