2000 round test of SD40 VE

I was able to get out and run some drills with it this the last couple of days and this time it ran like a top! I didn't take but 2 pics of my best group because I was busy shooting. Had a NRA instructor out with me who was running me through drills these pics are from a drill in which I drew from concealment (foxx hybrid holster) shot 5 reload and shot 5 (I only loaded 4 in one mag. oops!) I finished the drill in just under 8 seconds including the reload. Round count is now at 584 as I put another 200 rounds downrange. Only malfunctions were listed in the OP total of 10, none have occurred since getting a new slidestop.

ETA: I forgot to mention the pistol still has not been cleaned I will get pics of the internals tonight after work.

To those who commented about not getting an SD after reading this test:

Get the gun, they're great. The OP is starting with a modified gun and different magazines. This is the first I hear of a slide stop being a problem.

Zero malfunctions from my former sigma or my newer SD. Both stock with factory mags and that's what I recommend, leaving it that way.

I agree! While it's up to each man what he does with his gun, the SDVE series isn't one that I'd buy to customize or modify...if that was my intent, I'd buy a Glock or a 1911, since accessories abound for both.

The SDVE is a basic, no-frills self/home defense gun. While I have added a steel recoil rod assembly, steel rear sight, and an extended take down lever, I have not and won't modify the fire control group. I like having the heavier trigger on a gun without an external safety. The stock 16 round magazines are just fine for my purposes, and the grip fits my hand like it was made for me, so I don't need to add mag extensions.

The SDVE series is a very good gun, and better than the price indicates. It won't give you bragging rights, but it will save your life. :)

I was in a rush when I posted earlier so i also forgot to mention the Apex mag extension has not given me any further troubles once i put it on a 15 round mag instead of the factory 14 round mag. Maybe its because of the bigger spring.

Here is a pic of the internals after 10 months and 584 rounds without being cleaned.

LOL! I think it does. My $300 gun works as good as your $600 gun! I bought some ammo and a pizza on the way home! :D:D:D

Don't shoot the pizza! My wife is diabetic, and I am trying to follow her diet (out of sympathy) and I would love me some pizza!

I agree...we should brag about our SDVE pistols! When we can spend half of what someone else spends on a Glunk and we have a better (IMO) gun, then that's worth bragging about, right? :)

glocks are for lego building. great if you dont mind spending the initial $550 then addons. but for much less i got a SD that shoots as well as my glock 23 does

My brother in law loves to rag on my sd9ve cause he bought a glock a week after my gun. I asked him to show me a target from shooting the glock he replied he has to save for ammo cause he didn't but a bargain gun. Where I've shot 600 rounds from mine so far and it the group gets tighter and tighter every time I shoot. My reply to the bargain gun remark is at least I can shoot an intruder where you have to club them with your gun

I put another 600 rounds through it today with no malfunctions. Still has not been cleaned. Total is up to 1184 Officially counted since the test started and probably 2300 unofficially.

Is this Apex mag extension a pre-production model made exclusively for the SD40VE? Last time I checked the Apex website does not offer a mag extension for the 40 caliber mag, just the 9mm mag. I wonder if a Wolff +15% mag spring would work with your Apex extension. Apex might consider selling the extension with a stronger spring.

Yes it is and if I remember correctly they sell them they are just not listed on the website you have to call and ask for them. I dont remember why exactly But it was Posted in the original thread looking for testers.

You made a good choice.

I'm no impulse buyer. I weigh the pros and cons of every purchase. The price, warranty, capacity, dual magazines etc make it an excellent choice for a new gun.

Whether it's for a new shooter, home defense, glove box gun....the quality and value really cannot be beat.
