I am surprised that there have not been any posts already on this subject. I received an e-mail from WSB in Atlanta yesterday:
IRS tells millions to hold off on filing income tax returns – WSB-TV Channel 2 - Atlanta
"For taxpayers uncertain about the taxability of their state payments, the IRS recommends they wait until additional guidance is available or consult with a reputable tax professional. For taxpayers and tax preparers with questions, the best course of action is to wait for additional clarification on state payments rather than calling the IRS. We also do not recommend amending a previously filed 2022 return."
There are nineteen states that made payments to their citizens:
"The 19 states that issued state stimulus and rebate checks last year are Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia"
I agree with the IRS - if you haven't already filed, don't! If you have already filed, don't file an amended Federal tax return!
