A member of another forum has. as he described, and old 22/32 and wanted to find out the build date. I looked it up from an article, "Dating S&W Revolvers" . His serial no. was 25315 and the article said no's 25000 started in 1926 and 28500 started in 1927 so his build date was 1926. Was I correct with this info? I told him I would check with you experts here just to make sure. TYIA

Those serial numbers are far below .22/32 HFT's made in the 1920's. I suspect you are dealing with assembly numbers from the yoke cut which can't be used for dating the gun.

I have a .22/32 HFT that letters to January 1926. The serial number is 423630. That's 400,000 numbers higher than the serial number you are reporting. I suspect Guy is correct; you are getting the number from the yoke, and it is irrelevant. As noted above, the serial number on an HFT will be on the front strap of the grip frame.

I was just giving this forum the info the OP gave to the other forum. When asked about the serial no. he stated it was "on grip butt of the frame." and stated "It was the only no. on the gun." That was all the info I had. I was asking here to try to help the OP out. Later some of the other more knowledgeable members gave him a date of 1952 or 1953. I'm done with this one.
