Hey guys, I’m helping a friend do some research on a new acquisition. It’s a 22-32 Heavy Frame target with a high polish and serial number 5309xx. It has a small S&W logo on left side of frame and a large S&W on the right side of the frame. I know there has been a discussion on double logo ‘s but I can’t the outcome and I couldn’t find the discussion. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I don’t have the gun in my possession right now so I can’t take photos. I did have it in hand at the OGCA show this past weekend. Bill

Have him pull the stocks off and look for a service date stamp that will be on the left side of the front grip strap near the bottom. Look for a re-finish mark that will take the form of R-B or R-S in an oval cartouche along the left grip frame back strap These indicate re-finish blue or refinish standard, which is blue.

There was a time when guns sent in for re-finish had then current roll marks added. These included a sideplate logo and re-mark of the address block on the lower right frame above the trigger guard. It is possible/probably the gun was re-finished during the time period when this was being done.

I had a 2nd Model .44 Hand Ejector re-finished in 1974 and they added the sideplate logo!
