Hello everyone,
I recently ran into something I hadn't seen before,
a 22-4 Classic that has a color case hardened frame that looks to be a Turnbull finish similar to the CCH Heritage series.

Very little info out there that I can find, i'm hoping someone here can shed a little more light as to how many were produced, who did the CCH finish if not Turnbull, length of production, etc...basically anything.
Much appreciated.

Well, here's something, but not much. :o

Your Classic line came after the Lew Horton Heritage issued series, and with a lock. Introduced in 2005, according to the Standard Catalog of S&W, the case hardened 22-4 was introduced in 2007.

The Turnbull thing is interesting, but I don't know. A respected poster on another forum not long ago said that he had talked to Mrs. Turnbull, who runs the office for the business, and they did do the Classic case hardening; it is well known they did the Heritage series. But I have also read on this forum in the past from a knowledgeable person that although they didn't know who did the Classic case hardening, it wasn't not done by Turnbull.

They certainly don't look the same, and it's not just the lacquer finish. I'll continue to read this thread as it develops to see if there is a definitive answer.

As I'm sure you've discovered when searching for S&W Classic information, there's also an unrelated Classic Hunter and others. S&W, 172 years of stuff.

Turnbull keeps records by serial number and I specifically asked about the CCH 22-4. Their records indicated that they did the CCH on this Classic Series revolver. If you have doubts, contact them, they were very prompt in responding.

Adios,
