Thought you folks might want to see what was used in the Gov't contract K-22's, 46's, and Target Rifles.

From the 50 rd box through the brick, to the case.
Obviously, my sealed case and the separate brick have different production run numbers: 1XJ81N and 2YC41N.

They did not waste ink!

I have owned it a few years.
Got it at a gun show from a MilSurp dealer.
Have not fired any.

If it's old enough, then it is most likely Winchester T-22. Not top of the line but a good reasonably accurate round.

Used to buy a lot of that stuff in the military back in the late '70s-early '80s. Pretty good beer too.

It looks to me like the codes refer to an 86 contract, with actual production in 87 ????????

I might be confused. I always understood the M42 and M24 rounds were full metal jacket bullets. I know the M42's are as I have a box of them in my 22 collection. Have I been misimformed about the M24's?

I was issued lots of that stuff. We called it "white box .22", everyone knew exactly what we were referring to. It shot very good, but too many FTF at pistol matches, and you only get one alibi per match.
It really shoots good in the rifle, and I have never had a misfire with the heavier rifle firing pin.
I recently purchased the CMP Remington surplus .22, and have yet to have a misfire in either pistol or rifle.

I bought a case of these many years ago from the CMP. Still have 4-5 bricks. I use in my 41.

I was simply going by the DODIC/DODAC on the box (A086).
In TM 43-0001-27, the 22 long rifle, ball, M24 is listed with the DODAC of A086.

I have never heard of M42 .22lr ball, do you have a picture of this box and cartridge? Is it made by Olin/WCC?

Interesting thread; however, I didn't see anything about a 'M42' cartridge. It would be nice to see any boxes so marked or rounds for that matter. Has anyone else heard of a M42 22LR Ball cartridge?

I don't know its vintage but suspect from the fifties.

Perhaps a more knowlegeable ammo collector will give us a date.
