I think they are fun plinking guns. I have had an S&W 22S (same gun as 22A made with more steel and less alloy) for 15 years and it has always performed well.

I have had two over the years, used them a lot and never had one issue.

I didn't care for the one I had but many like them and I hope that you do also. Two hints I'd offer... when you field strip, keep an eye out for the little plastic buffer and don't lose it and replace it before it cracks, breaks down and begins to lose pieces. This is a low-cost consumable part, not a big worry, but good to have a spare ready.

The other tip is that on mine, the magazine disconnect safety gave a lot of resistance to magazine seating-- so if you go to load the pistol but the trigger seems dead, ensure the mag has been seated fully. This was a constant annoyance on mine, I'm not sure how common this problem is.

I was not at all impressed with the trigger but as with almost any fixed barrel rimfire pistol, it was nicely accurate and I'll bet yours will be accurate also.

With the exception of the magazine seating concern already mentioned, mine has been trouble-free. It is the Talo edition of the 22A-1 and for a lower-cost autoloading 22LR, it is very accurate. One seasoned league shooter who shot it declared it competition-ready. I'm not sure that it could perform well enough for that but it's nice to know it is a decent gun.

Your new gun looks to be in nice condition. I also have owned one of these which ran very well for me. I put around 8000 rounds thru it before my M46 came along and then my M41 as well.

One box down the pipe from former owner. Will try to get to the range soon.

22A Barrel Problem

After a round of shooting I noticed something was different with my barrel when I was cleaning it. Where it hooks in the back under the rear sight, it broke off. I can't find anyone who sells a new barrel for this gun and I've seen other people with this same problem. It looks like they've repaired the barrel and I wondered how important the little hook was to the functioning of the gun...as far as if it is safe to fire.

That is sweet,I like it.

>>Where it hooks in the back under the rear sight, it broke off.<<

And that, unfortunately, was one of the weak points of the 22A-1.
