Got a pretty nice 22 magnum 650 and I been told that I can convert it to 22LR via a barrel swap, Numrich has not had them in stock for quite some time now, is there another source for this?

If I where to get one, will there be some serious fitting required or will it just be a drop in deal?

I figure I would get a crane for it as well so It will be easier to swap calibers, am I on the right track here?

Exactly. I have a 650 that was shipped with both cylinders. .22 mag is a slightly larger bore size, but .22 LR works just fine through it.

Any gunsmith can fit a .22 LR cylinder to your gun if you can round the right one up.I think they're the same length as a kit gun cylinder, but I'm not positive. If it is, then finding a cylinder should be reasonably easy. If no one pipes up that knows, PM me, and I'll dig mine out and measure them.

Been looking for a 22LR cylinder at Numrich, Brownells, even Midwayusa for over 2 years now with no luck!

Check out the Model 63 cylinder

Please check this out before you do any ordering or parts replacement but I am led to believe that a Mod. 63 cylinder will do what you want. Check with Brownell's for the availability of the cylinder and the other associated parts. Someone please correct me if you know that I'm offering bad advice. I've been wanting to do the same thing with a Mod. 650. I am not sure why you mentioned the barrel, hope you meant the cylinder. The barrel does not have to be changed for the .22LR conversion.

I actually bought a bag-o-parts for a 63, including a cylinder, for an ugly nickel 34 I was trying to rehabilitate off of gunbroker a while back. They turn up once in a while.

Please add your expertise to this and confirm or disagree so as to close the book of doubt, looking forward to your expert response.

Do not install a Mod. 63.22 LR Cylinder in Mod. 650 .22M.R.F

I do apologize if this is not important to you but in my opinion, it needs to be addressed. Upon further investigation it has come to my attention that the model 63 cylinder has, on purpose, been designed to be of a different length so as to not be compatible with the Model 650. I understand that these cylinders were very close in length originally but have undergone a specific design change so as to prevent just anyone installing this .22 LR cylinder into the .22 M.R.F. Mod. 650. Sorry to have misled anyone, please consider this a retraction to my original reply to this question.
