I wanna get a bipod for my 22 for when it comes back from service. I was looking at one of these

Amazon.com: UTG Tactical OP Bipod - SWAT/Combat Profile Adjustable Height: Sports & Outdoors

The reviews for the most part seem to be pretty decent. I plan on shooting from a bench so I am guessing the shorter legs will be more appropriate. The price seem's really good but to tell yea the truth I never bought a bipod before so I really dont know what to look for.

Thanks guys for any and all advice you have.

Also this will basically be used for target shooting maybe some light squirrel hunting. Diffently dont need something heavy duty I dont think. I am looking at a Harris bi pod for my AR thought.

Don't know about the UTG brand but my son bought somebody's $49.95 bipod for his 10/22 and it's really crappy. Not very sturdy, has a good bit of wobble. He hates it.

He's now looking at a Harris, FWIW.

I went with an inexpensive 6" bi-pod once, it was a Chinese made Harris clone and it worked well on my .22 for about one season. It then started getting loose and parts started breaking, I ended up pitching it and spending the money on a 6" Harris and never looked back. I have since picked up a second 9" Harris and change them out as needed.

For bench shooting I also use an inexpensive Shooter Ridge rest. I have a couple of different setups depending on which rifle is being used.

Which one is this and about what does it cost?

It's the Versa-Pod Model 923 Lightweight Picatinny Rail Prone Bipod with Raptor Feet and Quick Detach. About the only difference is that these don't have the spring loading the military has. They are a little over $200, like I said, kind of expensive.

Spend a few bucks extra and get a harris. There are a few copies that look just like them but they are not as sturdy. Plus they are made in USA. Try the one with the leg notches and I think you will be pleased.

I've been happy with my Harris although was tempted by cheaper ones but heard same bad things about them too. I use mine mainly on my heavier varmit Remington 700s and has always worked well. I too am thinking about one for my ARs.
The cheaper ones might be okay for a lighter weight 22 but you'd hate to have to buy another better one if not.

Thanks for the help I have decided to go with the Harris not sure why all of a sudden I was thinking about skimping on a bi-pod. I didn't skimp on the rifle 600 which to me is on the high end of 22's. I am saving up and looking at a decent high end scope I am thinking 200-300 dollar range.

Back to he bipod I am looking at this model Amazon.com : Harris Engineering 1A2-BR Hinged Base 6 - 9-Inch BiPod : Gun Monopods Bipods And Accessories : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Vocmg4ysL.@@AMEPARAM@@41Vocmg4ysL

The problem with those is everytime you extend you have to tighten the thumb screw, the ones with the leg notches lock into place every 1/2" or so and no thumb screw. Your choice just throwing my two cents in. as for a scope check out the Redfield brand I believe they are made by leupold and are a good value 3x9x40 should do it for you

just a update I ended up ordering a bipod yesterday. I went with the Harris Engineering S-BRM Hinged Base 6 - 9-Inch. Had all the really nice features and it was at a price that didn't break the bank to badly. I figured I can at least use it on my AR also.
