I stopped by a local outdoor retailer today and bought a box of Speer Uni-Core 260 gr HP .451 bullets . They were on closeout and only cost $10 so I took a chance. However, now that I'm looking thru my reloading manuals I can only find 260 gr loads for the 45 Win Mag. Anybody have some insight into a 260 gr load for 45 ACP to shoot in my 4" 625 JM? Not looking to duplicate a 45 Win mag load, just something to use up these cheap bullets.

Years ago I used to use those for bowling pin shoots in my 1911. They worked great but I eventually broke the bottom lugs off my barrel shooting them. If you load them don't go over about 825 to 850 fps and put a much stronger recoil spring in the gun. Try Power Pistol, AA #5 or AA #7 and keep the COAL to at least 1.250" and preferably 1.260" if your gun will feed them that long to keep the pressures as low as possible.

Thanks for the info so far. Just for clairification, I have a S&W 625 JM and not an auto.

Oops! I thought you had a 645. You should be good to go in the revolver with the max permissible 45 auto COAL of 1.275". Watch the primers for signs of excessive pressure and hard extraction - sure signs the loads are a tad too hot.

I've used a couple of different 255 grain lead bullets in my 25-2, but never tried the jacketed variety. They work great on bowling pins. The jacketed ones would probably work just as well, but couldn't be driven as fast.

I use 7.6 grs. of Power Pistol with the 250 gr. XTP, for 960 FPS in my 4" 625. Reduce accordingly to compensate for the extra 10 grs. of bullet and you should be fine.

Well, I dug out my old Hodgedon #26 manual and it did have some 260 grain loads. thinking I'll try the HS-6 load as I have a quarter pound of that still on the self.
