Walked into a shop today and found a 4" 27-2 RR WO in excellent condition. No box or docs and had pacs on it not the proper grips. No wear marks that I could see but forgot my readers. Asking price was $650. Asked what they would take for it. He looked it up and said that they would let it go for $575. I never see any kind of 27 around here for that price. Aren't many 4"era around. What say you?

I am going back to check it out with my readers this time and bring it home if all checks out. I love 27's. Really want a 3.5" and a 5". I already have a 4" 5 screw that was a special order.

4" 27s were only made (except for special order) from IIRC 1980 to 1992.

Introduced at the same time as the 686/586 the L-frames were much more popular than the larger 4" N-frame guns.....so a short run vs other 27s and and heavy competition from the smaller L-frame.

When Smith dropped the 3 1/2 and 5 inch barrel options it replaced both with the 4" option.

I found one this past fall and there is a fairly long thread .........

IMO mine is a nice shooter grade...... 90-95% gun.... asking price was $695...................got if for $600 OTD...... translates to $560 before Pa. tax and backround check.

You should not be here reading this........run don't walk ........ go now!!!!!!!!

I feel so dumb. The shop was very dimly lit when I walked in and as I said, I didn't have my readers with me so I could not see the dash number inside the frame. I was thinking 27-2 so much that I didn't look to see if it was pinned and recessed. This morning I started to think about it and had forgotten about dash 4, 5 etc. I decided to go back with glasses and look again. It was a dash 4. I have never done that before and will not again. Sorry for the incorrect post. this particular shop is known to have high prices on guns so it made me suspicious when the price was that good for what I thought was a dash 2.

nothing wrong with a -4 for $575, not sure how much lower the price could go for that version........ What else can you get for under $600 bucks. But if it is not what you are wanting be prepared to shell out much more for a 27-2 in any length barrel.
