Have a Smith 27-2, blued with 6" bbl. Rear sight has white outline and front sight is red ramp. If held in right light I can see the front sight pin and certainly appears to not have been removed. Front sight ramp is slightly different than on 29-2, and does have serrations just below the red section, so do not believe it is modified partridge. Serial is N360XXX. Revolver has .500" target trigger, .500" target hammer and target stocks with last 3 digits of serial on frame marked in black marker on both inside of stocks. Revolver does not appear to have been refinished and does show some signs of use but overall bluing looks to be 90-95%. Barrel is marked on right side: S. & W. 357 MAGNUM which is centered between frame and muzzle. I always thought the 6" and longer bbl 27-2 had partridge front sights. Does anyone know if a red ramp was available for a 6" 27-2? Thanks for any info.

Detailed pics will get you a more definitive answer, but yes 6" 27-2's are known. Most are patridge sights.

Looks like the 6" and 8 3/8" barreled guns got the Patridge Front Sight in 1975.

Your gun would seem to date to somewhere in 1976.

Not sure how much this helps.

The Model 27 could be ordered with any combination of target sights, but most were manufactured with a Patridge blade front sight and a plain rear sight to match. Your 27-2 was shipped in 1976. The target stocks, target hammer and trigger were standard on this model by that time.
