You have a very nice and desirable nickel Model 27-2 from the mid-1970s. There are lots of .357 magnum and Model 27 fans here on the Forum! I have a few Model 27-2s in my modest collection, and my blued 6" is a little later than yours (N479553, ca. 1977-78). They are fun to shoot and extremely accurate revolvers. It's always nice to have the mahogany presentation case and tools, but it appears that you do not have the original stocks. Right now it is wearing some rubber Hogue's, and the set of wooden target stocks do not look like S&W. It should be fairly easy to find a set of period correct Goncalo Alves wood target stocks if you so desire. You should probably not store your 27-2 in the case- the blue flocking on the presentation case inserts tends to disintegrate over time, and can stick to your revolver if you leave it in the case. We have some expert craftsmen here on the Forum if you decide to have the case relined. Enjoy!

If you have a linen handkerchief or a silicone gun cloth (preferred), you can lie it in the presentation case, place the revolver on it and wrap it over the revolver, and the case will still close. I'd remove those rubber grips for storage, put the wood ones back on, as the rubber will hold moisture more. If you store the gun and don't shoot it much, at least take it out and admire it once a week and make sure it's doing okay.

I have to store a couple of my nicest revolvers (one is a M27-2) in their presentation case because I have no extra room in my safe. They both do fine, but I do keep them wrapped to keep the flocking off the gun.

Thanks Guys, I store it on a towel in my safe. The wooden grips are orignal to the gun ( per the guy I bought it from) they are S&W grips. I'm not looking to sell it, but do you guys know what they are priced at? Thanks, Bernie

Nice gun!

I love the bluing on all the old S&W revolvers, far better than any new ones I've seen.

Bernie:

What a fun 357. Based on Model 27s in my collection in the same SN area, your gun shipped in the summer of 1976. Since S&W did not ship in SN order, the only way to tell for sure is to request an Historical Letter on your gun. The letter will tell you the ship date, the configuration of the gun when it left the factory and the destination it was shipped to.

...The wooden grips are original to the gun (per the guy I bought it from) they are S&W grips.

Those wood grips do appear to be S&W grips made by Altamont (an OEM supplier of S&W grips). They are nice, but much newer than your gun. Although, grain and color of the wood used may vary significantly, factory target grips on guns from the mid 1970s looked like the grips on Hawg Rider's gun above and on this June 1976 shipped 27-2 (SN N341106):

Thanks for sharing your beauty and congrats on running down one of S&W's premium 357 Magnums.:)

Here is my Nickel 3.5" 27-2 with my former holster. I have the original grips and numbered box with all the goodie's. I also have a presentation case for it.
Larry

Now you did it. Now I have to get a nickel 3 1/2" 27-2. Enabler!;)
