In a previous post I mentioned a new to me 28-2 that had simulated pearl grips. I purchased a set off of eBay that are in
good condition and were advertised and sold as N frame
grips. I just put them on my pistol but they do not fit smoothly. Is the fit shown in the photos normal? Do I maybe not have N frame grips? If this is normal I will keep them but if the fit is incorrect I am going to want to return them.

They are early postwar K frame Magna stocks. Used from 1946-1952.
I think I need to borrow your decoding ring, lol. I was going to guess after 1953, because the shoulders looked rounded to me.

In any case, this is a nice pair of "diamond-center" K-frame Magnas, and a lot of people here would buy them from you if you decide not to return them.

Thanks once again for your invaluable help and knowledge. The right grip has number 270448 and the left grip has no number. I have initiated a refund and will try again.

Always examine the backsides of the panels. There is enough difference on the flat portions of the grips that engage the frame on both sides of the stock circles. If you pay attention to it you will be able to tell the difference unless the pic. is at a bad angle. Usually the mistake is the other way around.

These photos should help with stock size identification…

Sometimes it is hard to tell from pictures. His pic #1 is ambivalent; pic #3 seems to show a tapered shoulder; but pics #4 and #5 seem to show a sharp shoulder. So, you could be right.

In looking at (and owning) dozens of the sharp shoulder Magnas, I've discovered that the shoulder angle is slightly different from one set to another. Some have a very sharp shoulder, on others the shoulder has a bit of taper.

At 270448, they cannot be from an S prefix gun. C270448 would be from 1953, and K270448 would be from 1956. So maybe they do have the tapered shoulder. As I noted, photo angle can make a huge difference.

Just a few?:) What are you on the hunt for?

Thankfully, I am not the least bit interested in J frames. I can't hit anything with them, and they have lousy triggers IMO
I admit I'm more partial to N, K and even some L frames...OK, add the I frames too...And if I'm ever confronted with an M frame whose adoption fee I can afford at the time, it will probably enter the family also...

But the J's have their appeal when they present themselves looking up at me with dirty faces and empty, hungry cylinders, wearing their old cardboard garments, begging for a bath, and possibly new Bigmtnman shoes and a nice warm safe to sleep in...

OK, so I admit it...I'm a Smithaholic...So shoot me, although I can promise I shoot back!......Ben

Well, I cannot quite get that emotional about them. If I need a 2" bbl, I have a 10-5, and a 15-3, and that is all I want of them
