Hi guys!
I have an offer for a modell 28-2 with unusual 3 1/2" barrel. I did not see the gun yet, but the seller said he measured the barrel and it would be 88mm which equals 3 1/2". Anybody heard of such a barrel length. It's no 28 with 27 barrel.
Thanks for your help.
Rainer

It also comes with RB?????? Handmade conversion???

I add 2 pictures: Frame new finish? RB made by "gunsmith"? Lousy welded front sight? Smith & Wesson odd shape. Not yet pictures of the right barrel side. For me a fake (if ofered as original)

Okay, I capitulate and lose my dollar.

I would have no interest in that creation. I really wonder what the back story is on that extremely strange "Smith & Wesson" lettering font on the left side of the barrel.

It does appear to have a 3.5" barrel; a 4" N frame barrel will end about 1/2" past the end of the extractor rod shroud. Bad news is it has clearly been shortened.

If you are able to examine it in person it 'may' be worth buying, but if not I too would pass.

This may not be necessary, but here's an illustration showing a stock 4" barrel on the Highway Patrolman Model 28-2.

Notice two relationship items on the barrel:
1. The distance between the forward frame bridge and the front sight.
2. The amount of barrel protruding to the front of the extractor rod shroud.

Notice also the font of the S&W stamp on the barrel.

Definitely a worked over Mod 28-2. The workmanship looks to be pretty solid. Not only has it been round butted, but look at the top of the grip, that recurve is what's catching my eye. Seems to be exaggerated, either by adding of removing metal or both. If the price was right (and not in Germany), I'd be all over that - but then again I love a misfit. More pics!

Looks like someone was trying to make a "sort of looks like" 3.5" M-27.
