I have the opportunity to purchase a model 29-2 in almost mint condition, but upon inspection of several high resolution the dealer has sent me it appears it has been magnaported, other than this the gun is original.Question is would you buy it ? Im looking at buying it to add to my collection (not as a shooter) as i dont have a 6 inch 29 but the fact it has been magnaported has put me off...what do you guys think ?

IMHO If you are buying it for collecting purposes i would say that the collector value is low because it has been ported as a shooter it would be great if the price is right. if the price is right buy it there not making 29-2s any more and you can always buy another barrel.

It depends on how much your getting it for? Does it have the box and tools? I recently picked up a 29-2 6.5 that has been MagnaPorted with the pres box and is in mint condition for $600, But if you are looking for a collector 29 that is not the one, but I wouldn't pass it up if the price is right.

I personally hate ported guns...they spit a lot, and are much louder than the stock models. On the other hand, as much as I dislike them they do work.

Thanks fellas , im going to give it a miss , he has a mint 29-2 8 3/8 which im going to get instead. In case youre wandering about the prices here in Australia he wanted $995.00 for the ported 6 inch model 29.I now have to be on the look out for a 6 or 6 1/2 inch model.

Mate we do have special licences and permits and waiting periods ,highly regulated but still available to those whop choose to pursue collecting and target shooting as far as handguns go, which i do both.No handgun hunting,no semiauto or pump action shotguns and no semi auto rifles for the average shooter, they are available to certain groups such as farmers and professional shootersand are highly restricted and regulated. We are allowed all other centrefire and rimfire rifles and shotguns, not allowed 50 cal handguns or rifles either. The gun law landscape changed dramatically back in 1996 after we had a mass shooting where 53 people where shot and 35 killed buy a guy using asault rilfes ,prior to this most common assult rilfes such as AR15s,HK91 & 93,semi auto Thompsons and uzi s etc etc where available in some states ,an rifles like mini 14s,Sprigfeild M1A , M1 carbines,SKS,etc etc where available in everystate. I remember as a 13 year old kid buying 243 and 223 ammo from K Mart...im 39 now..not an old man yet , but can really see how times have changed. You even have to be licenced to buy a Daisy BB gun and i can remember seeing them in the toy section at K Mart.If you would like to know more im happy to tell.
