Did the 29-2 come in a display box as shown below, or is this someone's attempt to create one?
Thanks for any expert opinions.

This is what the box for a 4" 29-2 looked like in 1976. There is also a matching insert inside the lid.

Below (Left) is a photo of my 1977 vintage 29-2, SN 4420xx, in 8 3/8" barrel. Note the contrast in box styles between the 4" barrel 1976 29-2 in the above Post and mine here.
In a larger box, mine lacks the contoured box liner and more of a generic box style. I suspect it isn't the single year difference in production but rather the barrel length which accounted for the 'uncontoured' box. I can't attest to the originality of my box to the gun. Just that with all the accoutrements it impresses me as being original and I consider it such 'more likely than not'.
Just for contrast, below (Right) a Model 27-2 vintage 1976, SN 3253xx, in 5" barrel with the contoured case.
Perhaps there's a box expert to provide some further guidance here beyond 'show & tell'!
Just my take.
iskra...Your 29-2 is laying on the top liner in the presentation case and is missing the bottom liner that is molded to fit the revolver and accessories.

Thanks Bill! Head shaking and a large belly laugh as I read your logical explanation! Doubt there will be many lower liners to the required specs floating around looking for a home... So it will likely just stay as is! Or, falling right in with the times and too many other explanations I've seen..., the "rare inverted lightweight box variation" commanding of course a premium!
Thanks again for the education!!! Case closed!
Best!
