29-2 manufacturing date by serial number

I have a couple 29-2's and was wondering if anyone could provide me with a date of manufacture based on the serial number. The first serial number is N425XXX, and the other is N142XXX. Thank you for the help.

N142XXX manufactured 1973.

Were guns in this time period produced in consecutive serial number order?

S&W rarely, if ever, manufactured its lines of firearms in consecutive serial number order. In addition, all N-frames (27s, 28, 29s, 57s, etc.) shared the same serial number sequence. So it is possible, N12345 could be a Model 28 and N12346 be a Model 29.
