I found a 29-2 with a 4"barrel, serial#BDZXXXXX

any hlp on what the bdz stand for/is?

In 1980 S&W began using a three letter prefix for the serial numbers starting with AAA.

The 29-2 ceased production in 1981 so not sure how you have a 29-2 with a serial from around 1990.

Definitely not a 29-2, I am not sure when they started making the 29-4 so it could be one of 3 models -3,-3E (for the enduance upgrades), or -4

If you still have questions on Monday you could also call Customer Service at S&W. A triple-alpha gun like this one will be in the computer so they can look it up and tell you exactly what it is(or was when it left the factory )
