29-4 info PICS ADDED....

Condition is everything, but that sounds like a special run of 500 Model 29-4's for Hill Country Distribution. If it is all original, then $1000 is a screaming bargain.

I got to hold it in my grubby, formerly nicotine-stained fingers...It is immaculate...The only bad part of it was Howie saw it before I did...It's a little too young to join my stable, but I'm sure I could have provided a temporary home for it......Ben

Let me re-enter this thread long enough to say Howie's cell phone pics would not do a dirty ashtray justice in this case...This gun, even given its utilitarian purpose, Looks about 10,000% better in person, even under typical gun show lighting...The majority of my guns are from the first half of the 20th Century, but if I had seen this before he did, it would be mine......Ben

Thanks everyone for the info.
Based on banging around on the computer this am it
surely appears this is one of the Smiths sent to
Hill Country Distributors. ....around 1989 I think.

Alot of the info came from the archived posts on this site.
Fairly scarce Smith 44 mag.

My next question is I wonder how a factory letter would
read (indicate) regarding shipping location and number of guns.

Many thanks again.

Howie, I had a similar gun some years back, a 29-3 that lettered as one of 25...Roy's research revealed that it had gone back to the factory where the sights had been replaced with black ones, it now had a full lug 5" barrel and some exquisite Goncalo Alves combat stocks...It's original configuration was as described below...So since this unfired one of 25 had all its work done at the factory, it had become one of one...

You may recall drooling on it at one of the Conroe shows a few years back...I still regret not having it, but that stack of US green piled in front of my eyes blinded me......Ben
