One just came available locally, and it looks perfect.
Not sure if the box & goodies are available or not.
$700 sound like a reasonable price?

The first regular production 3" model 13s were the -2s. If documented or lettered as an FBI issued sidearm it is probably worth $700 and then some, but many sellers will imply a particular example has an FBI connection that may not be true.

$700 Is a pretty good price, I'd offer $600 and see if the seller will bite.

I'm glad I bought my shooter grade Model 13 3" when I did. I sold the Milt Sparks holster and Pachmyer grips that it came with and brought my out of pocket to $400.00. I've since bought Round Butt Magnas and a Tyler T-Grip as well as a set of Altamonts and a Bianchi holster.

If it's legit, buy the gun. As I understand not many made it to private hands.
I was offered three of them in a package about 10 years ago when I lived in NY. The local shop owner , who I knew real well, just got them in from a retired FBI agent. They ranged from 325-350 each.
I was very tapped out at the time and had to pass on them, but posted about them on this forum. Only one member contacted me, forum member 29-1, who also lived in NY at the time. He went over to the shop and made a deal for all three, after contacting Mr Jinks and confirming every one of them were FBI service weapons.
I'm glad Chuck got the guns because his wife is FBI.

If I were you, and the gun is legit, I would grab it. Numerous agents here on the forum asked me if any others were available at the shop. Sadly it was a one time, once in a lifetime deal.

Well, turns out it doesn't come with box or any of the factory goodies.
Also turns out it isn't an actual FBI gun.
I'm going to pass, if anyone else is interested send me an email and I'll put you in contact with the seller.

I would give $700 for a near perfect model 13 with 3" in a minute. I gave $700 for a real nice one a few months ago and was glad to get it. It's the only 3" mod 13 I've seen in person in 2-3 Years and I wasn't about to let it go. Gladly pay that for another. They just don't show up around here.

What exactly do you do to find out if one you own was an FBI gun? Do I call S&W and ask to speak with Mr Jinks or email them? I have one I would like to know about.

I've had my very nice 13-3 3" for almost 20 years, which explains why I paid, as I remember, less than $400. Since then I think I've seen three others in person. Most recent was back in December, a very nice condition 13-3, with box, for $850. It was gone in a day, along with a mint 65-3 3", also with box, also $850. If I found a 3" 13 for $700 I'd grab it. 3" K frames are very, very popular right now.

My particular Model 13 was never an FBI service revolver, but it was my service revolver for a little while. It replaced my 4" Model 19. I stopped carrying it when it occurred to me how tough it would be to replace. A blue GP-100 3" took it's place.

I too saw that one, and it's pretty tempting. I doubt it will be around when I get back in a week or so.

Buy the revolver, not the possible associated history. If it letters, even better.

Didn't the FBI destroy most of the model 13s carried by agents in the field? If there are any left, it can't be very many. My father said that he and pretty much every other agent he knew tried to buy their duty revolvers but they weren't given the option: Sadly and with great stupidity, they were confiscated and destroyed.
