looking for some of the old 50 or 55 grain 22s they used to put in sabots and advertise 4000 speeeeeeeeeds. Except the shooter couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Just wanted to get some to reload into some 30-30 shells I have.

thanks in advance for any leads

I got mine from E. Arthur Brown Company - Home Page but the reports of the inaccuracy were true. I loaded mine in 30-30 brass as well, never could get them to shoot, and the data they sent me to use was WAY off. I tried several powders and several velocity ranges, two inches at 50 yards was the best I ever got, and problems with poorly made/inconsistant sabots and tumbling slugs made me give up on them.

Here's another site that sells them with some more info. I shot some out of a .32 magnum revovler years ago, accuracy wasn't horrible, but the distance wasn't very far. The sabot didn't fall off either according to some paper targets I shot with them.

Those look like the same ones I used, and over the years I have yet to hear of anyone getting MOA accuracy with them. Sometimes the problems were obvious, like inconsistencies with the sabots themselves.

I managed to recover quite a few after they were fired, and there was a lot of variance in how far they traveled before they fell off, which no doubt had a negative effect on the accuracy.

The velocity also has to be matched to the barrel twist, plus the weight/length of the sabot and bullet, failure to do so leads to pretty obvious keyholing. I finally gave up on trying to get any useful accuracy out of them.

If you just want to run them hot to blow up milk jugs at 50 feet, they'd probably work fine. :)
