My 317-2 (2") arrived yesterday. I haven't had a chance to shoot for accuracy yet, but I took it out and fired a couple of cylinders to get some empty cases (ad hoc "snap caps".) I had read so much about the atrocious "12 pound" trigger that I had already ordered Wolff spring kit for it and prepared myself for a spring polishing job when it arrived. Low and behold, it has a really very usable trigger right out of the box. I don't know if it because I am used to a DAO pull or what, but I found trigger to be pretty good as is. I figure that with 1000 or more rounds through it (easy to do with rimfire) it will smooth out to a really good trigger. Has anybody else had this kind of luck with an OTB 317?

Mine is LNIB, and I find the trigger acceptable as is. Should be good conditioning for a regular J-frame.

The trigger on mine has always been fine. I've read the complaints too, but my 317-1 DA pull is very similar to my 342 and neither is a problem.

Funny you should say that, mine feels exactly the same as my 642, which has since smoothed out into a super fine trigger.

Has anyone replaced the springs in their 317-2? I have one on layaway, when I tried it in the store the double action trigger was fairly heavy. It was noticibly heavier than my 617.

Has anyone replaced the hammer spring with a lighter one? What spring strength worked best?

Also, does anyone know if Taurus use the same spring type as S&W J frame? I have a spare Taurus spring kit at home.

Thanks!

Yes, I replaced the rebound spring with a reduced power one. That cleaned up the DA pull to what I call a good DA. I didn't do any polishing on the interior bearing surfaces or replace the mainspring.
