Looking for info/date of production for a 32 Long CTG Serial number 5796xx. Serial number on butt, cylinder and bottom of barrel. A police revolver from? OR How to look up the serial number online. Thanks! Chaps

No good way to tell if had been in police service or not unless you have some family history suggesting that. Several good pictures would help positively identify what you have. It could be much younger than the early 1900s.

Chaps, a serial number, that high, on the butt, sounds post War (WW II that is). As others have said pix would be very useful, but based on caliber and SN, I’m gonna take a WAG and say it’s about 1953 vintage +/- a year or two. It likely has a coil spring action. It is the progenitor to the Model 30 if I’m guessing correctly. Need a picture or at least more info to improve my guess!
Oh yeah, welcome to the forum! :D

It's a Regulation Police model if it has square butt grips.

Green Frog nailed it, likely from 1952-53.

If it has a leaf hammer spring it's a Post war transistional Model I frame.

If it has a coil hammer spring and 1/2 round front sight, it's an improved model I frame, type 1.

If it has a barrel rib and ramp front sight, it's an improved model I frame, type 2.

Thanks

Many thanks for the help with the 32 long...I'd agree with the post WWII take! V/R Chaps
