Any of you folks out there have any problems with misfires using full moon clips? I just got a 325 used with full moon clips and had one misfire do to a shallow fireing pin strike.
anybody else?

One misfire out of how many rounds? One out of six sounds like a problem, one out a hundred, not necessarily. The former suggests a light strike. The latter, perhaps a defective round or primer. First thing I'd check is my strain screw. Is it tightened all the way? I've purchased a couple of Smith revolvers in the last few years that came to me with strain screws that were not fully tightened. That's a recipe for light strikes. If that's not the issue and the gun continues to misfire, I'd send it to Smith.

Thanks, I've only put a few rounds through it, will do some serious shooting this weekend and will let you know how I make out. I wondered about the clip.

When I got my new 325 it also had lots of light primer strikes. I added a C&S extended firing pin and it has been 100% since. Easy to install and cheap part.

This a well known problem, the only reliable cure is replacing the factory pin with a longer one from C&S or others. It's an easy fix. I have them in all of my scandium guns. Do a search here and you'll find lots of posts.

Hmmm, thanks, I really appreciate the resource this forum is. I was hoping this was just an anomoly. I'm gonna try to get out tomorrow to put a few rounds through it, see what happens.
Thanks again

Craig,
It may be an anomoly, but? If the strain screw isn't loose, if the moons aren't bent, or the grooves in the brass don't put them in a position where the firing pins energy is being used up pushing them fully forward in the moons, I'd still go the longer pin. It's cheap insurance, easy to install and enough of them have had to be replaced to justify it?

Thanks again,
Another thing is, this piece has had some work done to it. I don't have a trigger scale but it has one of the lightest and smoothest da pulls I've come across. Way lighter than my 396 44 special. I just put a few rounds of magtec steel cased 45 acp through it. Maybe the action job and the magtec primers? I'm gonna try to get out today and try some winchester and federal brass cased stuff through it, let ya know what happens.

not your model, perhaps related:

I acquired a lightly used 625-8 a couple years ago. Loved it, sent it off to the factory for their "master gunsmith" tune up.

got it back, wonderful upgrade....however, about every couple hundred rounds it starts giving a licght strike or two. Then another or two. Or three.....

Eventually I pull the handle off & find the strain screw backed out 1/2 to nearly 1 full turn. Run it back in, works fine again for a few hundred rounds.
