I know what model I have but my understanding is the m in serial number started at m70,000 and mine has m15xxx. Am I wrong on the m70000. Thanks for any info. Pistol has been tucked away for 50 years in original box.
Sorry pictures are different here then I am used to. I will learn but old dogs learn slow.

The M prefix started at M1. M15xxx is likely from~1970. I think you are referring to the J prefix

Retired W4 is correct. The J frame .22 Models began at M1 serial range in 1969, hit M70,000 by about 1975, and went over M219801 by 1983. So about 1970 is right for your gun.

Just FYI: The J series serial range he referred to is only for the J frame .38 Spl models.
