I bought a 340pd no lock a couple of years ago as an off duty, back up, pocket revolver. It served that role well. However, I was noticing cylinder face erosion and decided to contact S&W. I explained the problem and they sent me a shipping label. I wrote a note and placed it in the box explaining the problem and that I had followed proper ammo restrictions and bullet weights religiously. I sent along a challenge coin and a department patch and explained in the note that I would prefer a blackened stainless cylinder instead of a titanium if it had to be replaced. And since I’m not getting younger, I asked them to replace the front sight from the red ramp to green fiber optic explaining I would pay for an added cost. I removed my Pachmyer grips and shipped the gun. Three weeks later I had the 340pd back in my hands; with a blackened stainless cylinder, green fiber optic sight, and Crimson Trace laser grips! They didn’t send me an invoice. Yes, the revolver weighs slightly more, but boy does she shoot.
I can’t begin to express my thanks to S&W for taking care of my revolver. They are true friends to law enforcement.
Here is a before photo with a model 66-3 and the after photo of the 340pd
