OK, OK. I'm old and forgetfull. SOoo I dug up my old records and books. My S. Skelton was in Handloader's digest 1978, "My long favored all-round LOADS FOR SIXGUNS". He used 358156 with gas check, 1-15 lead tin mix. Thompson recommended 13.5 gr 2400 as max load. The problems Skelton had was case separated on very used cases with double cannelure cases, but only twice. I never had any problems but for mouth cracks, using heavy loads and I used shooting ranges for my cases, so I have many different makes mostly federal. he chronoed 1206 fps for 10 rounds. Lyman 45th reloading handbook states 357 using 2400 is 11gr for 956 fps and 15gr for 1250 fps. using unique it is 4.0gr 680 fps and 8.0gr for 1250 fps. My notes show I have used 7.8 gr unique for about 1100 fps in 38 spec cases for 357 loads. I usually load 6.8 gr unique. 4gr for the regular 38's using 358430 150 gr round nose no gas check. Accuracy load 45th edition 2400 15 gr. In the 48th edition 2400 is 10.6gr to 14 gr 1299 fps. Accuracy load was 14 gr 2400. I like using unique because of the flash, it is larger then any other hand gun powder. My son took some spectacular looking pictures of the flash at night using unique. any way unique is not listed in the 48th handbook using 358156. Skelton states the 38 spec case with 2ed grove is only 5% less capacity then the 357. I have used a S&W 360, 11 oz unloaded, 14.5 oz loaded, 1 7/8" barrel. It has the recoil of the Ruger blacktop 44 Mag. 20 foot pounds. But with smaller grip.
I use grains of unique powder to measure case capacity, with a live primer, full to the top, tho I can not find my old notes. I seem to remember that the +p cases are smaller then the the regular 38's. this is reasonable. They are someplace, will report when found if anyone wants to know. remember, old forgetfull!
45th handbook 38 spec loads, 358156 with unique 3.5gr 660 fps to 5.4 gr 1002 fps.
48th handbook " " 3.4gr 601 fps to 5.1 gr 895fps.
" " +P " " 5.4gr 954fps.
this looks like reloaders have been using the +p for a long time. hype for factory ammo?
I use mag primers for all loads. It is easy to have over 10,000 primers with all types of primers, so now only have 3 types, and I load way down with mag primes, and going up check for pressure.
Is this use full to anyone?
One thing I would like to know is has any one who is right handed use the left hand to shoot.
when I use only my left hand my left eye does the aiming automatically, but if I still shot left handed and use my right hand to steady my left I use my right eye automatically.
Always using right hand shooting or steadying I use right eye automatically.

Skeeter used .38 spl brass with the Lyman gas check cast bullet seated
farther out than normal in .357 revolvers. This creates more space in the
case for powder allowing him to reach near .357 level velocities with .38
spl brass. He did this as I recall because .357 brass was often scarce.
There is hardly any reason to do this today. As to high flash powders
many shooters prefer the new powders that claim to be low flash.
When shooting handguns I keep both eyes open and my dominant
right eye automatically takes over. I expect that most shooters do
likewise.

Just a note on .38 Special +P brass, other than the +P marking it is no different than the standard .38 Special brass of the same brand.

Yes and no. Some 38 Special brass will have thin case walls almost all the way to the case head. This keeps the brass from bulging when wadcutter bullets are seated.

About 2/3 of people are R eye dominant and 1/3 L eye. Some are neither, and if you shoot equally well with both you may be one.

Who is talking about wadcutters? From everything I have read and have been told .38 Special +P brass is no different than standard .38 Special brass from the same manufacturer. The capacity is the same in both which effects pressures.
