358 Winchester

I have had one experience with the .358 Win round. A friend had a Remington XP100 in .358 and let me light off a round. Using a two hand hold, I literally had to take a step back when it went off. Felt like someone shoved me in the chest. At least I didn't drop it. OD

I expect you could rebarrel an H&R single shot in .30-06 without breaking the bank. Cut the barrel ahead of the under lug, bore and thread it and then screw the new barrel in. Chamber carefully.

Why could you not re chamber a 35 Remington?
A Encore or Contender in a custom barrel would sure be an option too I would think.
I just bought a very clean, nice savage 99 in 358 Winchester, and it is a 1957
gun which is a birth date gun for me too !!!

About 20 years ago I hunted for a savage 99 in 358. No luck, but I did manage to find the Marlin lever action in 356. Never have let it go. A fine woods rifle. My son found one several years ago in the Browning lever action, but sold it due to hard times. Doubt they will ever do one in the bolt action with all the other choices of caliber out there.

Most of the custom Encore makers (SSK, MGM, Bullberry, Bellm, etc.)
will be happy to make either a pistol or rifle (or both on the same frame) in 358 Win.
I am going that route to keep my 445 fetish alive.
