35s&w Automatic...brown is not down!

I picked this up at a local gun show 2 weekends ago. Except for what looks like a little holster wear on the other side, it's in super clean condition and the bore is like new. If you watch Antique Roadshow, they will tell you the market for brown furniture is down.
However I really like the brown stocks on this pistol along with the bone on the grips of this old Clauss (Fremont, Ohio) pocket knife. I did function test it, putting 14 rounds of 32acp through it and it worked perfectly. I don't intend to shoot it much at all in the future.

These are super neat relics that have had a little of my interest for a while now. I know basically zilch about them and have never actually had one in my hands.

I kind of feel like this is a pistol that's better left for me to wonder about than to actually buy, but that doesn't mean I won't get one!

Your example looks excellent! When might you suppose it was made or shipped?

Thanks! This one is serial 8160 so very late in the run. Probably made in 1921-22. I really wasn't expecting to get one but saw it on a table, condition was good and price okay.

I handled one recently. It is the centerfire ancestor to the 400/600/2200 rimfire pistols of the late 20th century.

Two quirky features; the little wedge in the slide serrations is a recoil spring disconnector, so the action has no resistance when manually cycled. And the (barely visible) semicircular metal piece in the upper rear grip strap is a manual safety!

They are a interesting page in the S&W history life.I see Some features in the model 41-{pull the trigger guard to tip the barrel} I am wondering why the ability tp disengage the recoil spring assembly to assist racking the slide has not been tried on some of the modern guns for people that have problems racking the slide To me the gun demonstrates the willingness of S&W totry to improve gun designs ,It is a shame 5that the colt pocket .ssssavage,and others had alreadr been on the market for several years and had established a strong place in the market.Also the bullet design was a ******* in the market place
