Did S&W make any 3.5" barrel 38/44 revolvers with or without the humpback hammers? I have on that was re-nickled by Fords that It would love to have cut down and the hammer replaced, if I could find one!

To my knowledge there are no Factory 3.5" 38/44's with or without the Humpback Hammer.Finding a HB Hammer out of the Gun for sale is next to impossible.

Well with that very true admonition, does anyone have a hump back hammer for sale that will fit a 38/44? Also who would you recommend to cut the barrel to 3.5" and fix the nickle. Fords?

I'm not the 3844 HD expert.......

but I believe there were a few made with 3.5" barrels. I rolled my own in this case, but it would look something like this

Interesting gun, is that a 27 barrel on it? Did you have to lower the front sight to compensate for the lower back one?

The barrel is ......

a pre 27 barrel that I paid dearly for. I drove the pins out of the front sight & mounted a lower version, yes.

Agreed, I've never heard of such a gun because I am pretty sure Bill would have one already in his collection or have one referenced on his website.

By the way, anyone heard from Bill lately? Oh, I just saw him in the classifieds. :)

I think he spent a LOT of time on the awesome article he wrote for the S&WCA Summer Journal.

I had a thread a year or so ago where I asked about 3 1/2" barreled Heavy Duties. The first edition of the Catalog says they made some.
That would be my Grail gun.
Bill would know, so I'll defer to him.:D

except for that one that's in a cigar box, up in an attic, in an old boarding house in Cleveland or Phoenix...;)

If it's in an attic in Phoenix the stocks are cracked from drying out! (LOL) As for the one in Cleveland, when it's found it will be sold for an obscene amount of money because of its "one of" status and will spend the remainder of it's days deep in the vault of some collector, never to be touched by human hands…let alone shot as was intended. (smile)
