38 HBWC

None I am aware of. HBWCs tend to be made from swaged lead, not cast due to the soft nature of the lead used.

Any reason why swaged HBWCs will not meet your need?

HBWC do tend to be made from swaged lead but aren't there HBWC molds where some people might be selling some finished bullets?

HBWC

I am trying to reload the old National Match Load
for the S&W model 52

38-148gr HBWC 2.7 grains Bulleye

I have a HB 38 mold. Even if I were in the sales business, I could never sell HB bullets for as much as they would cost me in finding soft enough alloy, time to run a single cavity mold and lubing times. I would guess a price in the neighborhood of $35 a hundred. You have to love making your own to roll with a HB mold. Hornaday swedged are your best bet.

Mihec makes a HBWC 4 cavity mold. He is from Slovenia. You can get some info on the Castbullit forums. I buy the Remington HBWC's but they are hard to find. They are swaged also but I have one of the Mihec molds I am getting ready to try.

The big manufactures,Speer,Hornady,Remington, etc all make swaged lead bullets.I would look at those for a hbwc. That bullet needs to be soft so it can upset and engage the rifling in the barrel.

Loads for 52 Smith

I competed with the 52 back when I was shooting Bullseye, and I loaded the Speer 148 gr HBWC for my 52 and for my custom PPC revolver.....using the bullseye charge you listed this load will cut a "rathole" group in the X and 10 ring if the shooter is capable of holding that tight. During a period of 15 years I loaded and shot thousands of these loads. The hollow base of the swaged wadcutter serves the same purpose that the hollow base of the Minnie ball does, it expands under pressure to seal the gas and to "take" the rifling better. Speer HBWC's are very accurate with bullseye powering them.
I have shot thousands of Remington & WW factory HBWC loads and they were all swaged bullets also.

Based on research on the Forum, I finally sprung for some Speer HBWC yesterday. I've been shooting Berry's 158 FP as target loads and they are "ok" but generally not of the one ragged hole hole variety. I can't wait to try the new loads out, especially in my unfired by me M&P 4th Change .38 4" nickel and 19-2 6" - oh, heck, all of them! Will let you know how it goes.
