My doctor got a 5" S&W.38 special ctg. and he asked if I might have any info. I can't get a pic small enough to be accepted?
The serial number is c 1389xx. I've used this forum a in the past but I don't remember having so many problems trying to submit a picture? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is a .38 Military & Police model and it probably left the factory in 1950, maybe 1951. I show a 5" unit at C131586 that shipped in January, 1951. But also a 4" unit at C133082 that shipped in September, 1950, and a 2" round butt example at C137684 that shipped in December, 1950.

Incidentally, CTG is an abbreviation for the word cartridge. It has nothing to do with the name of the revolver.

If you don't have a way to shrink the picture, I would consider uploading it to a pic sharing website (I use https://postimages.org), where you can specify to reduce the size to something like 800x600 for posting.

C1-C223988 would date the gun to 1948~51, and maybe a pre-Model 10, a.k.a. .38 M&P post WWII model. I would post in the sub-forum for the older hand-ejector models.

It's a 6" barrel .38 M & P.

Looks as though you figured out the photo posting...generally resizing any image down to 25% with MS Paint or a similar program makes it small enough to post here.

Re C 1389xx, my SN list suggests that shipment occurred sometime in 1951. But there no way to tell precisely without getting a historical letter. Some collectors would unofficially call it a "pre-Model 10 M&P."
